And we're off!

I had a great time last night with Susan, Menley and Katia, and look forward to seeing returning and new members at our next meeting!

Our book for this month is The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I'm really looking forward to reading this novel, as I am a huge Neil Gaiman fan, and am curious as to why someone would grow up in a cemetery! I thought it would be a perfect pick for our October (spooky) meeting. The novel has won several awards, including the Newbery Award and Hugo Award! If you enjoy the novel, I would also strongly suggest reading Gaiman's Stardust - it's fantastic!

I have tons of copies of The Graveyard Book at the library for anyone who wasn't able to attend last night. Just let staff know you need to pick up a copy, and they will get one for you!

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 17th. I hope to see you all there!

Welcome Back!

Next week marks the beginning of a new school year - and more importantly, the return of the book club!

I'm happy to be back at Masonville this fall, and hope you all had a great time when I was gone.

You can register for the book club starting on Tuesday, September 4th on the library website, or by calling us or coming in for a visit! Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 19th starting at 7 pm. Please come ready to share the best or worst book you read over the summer. I will have our first read of the year ready to go, and will be looking for book suggestions from you for future months!

See you soon!

April's Meeting - Our Last One!

We had our last meeting this week, thank you to everyone who was able to attend!  I had a great time meeting all of you, sharing books together, and trying a lot of interesting crafts.

The book club will likely return in the fall with Lindsay, the permanent Branch Librarian here at Masonville, so keep that in mind for the next school year.  Also, there are still a couple of books that haven't been returned yet. If you have one, please return it to any branch as soon as possible.

I will miss these monthly get togethers.  Have a great summer!

March's Meeting

We have our book club's 2nd last meeting tonight. We will be talking about The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. It is definitely a different kind of dystopian novel than the Hunger Games and it had quite a cliff hanger ending. Will you be reading the next book?

The selection for next month is another historical fiction called A Spy in the House by Y.S. Lee. Since that seemed to be the favourite genre of the group, I thought it would be nice to end off with one that most would enjoy!

See you tonight!

February's Meeting

Remember that our next book club meeting will be tomorrow night. We will be talking about Haunting Violet by Alyxandra Harvey. So far I have heard great response to this book from those of you that I have seen in the library, so hopefully that will make for a fun meeting. I'm particularly excited about our craft for this meeting, which has absolutely no correlation to the book! Next month's selection is The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau.

I hope to see you all tomorrow!

January's Meeting

Our next book club meeting is tonight. Once again, we'll be welcoming a couple of new members! The book for discussion is The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Only having been familiar with the 1939 movie, I found all of the differences between the book and the movie quite interesting. You will also receive our book for next month, Haunting Violet by Alyxandra Harvey. It is in the running for the 2012 Red Maple award.

See you tonight!
