Happy Holidays!

Hi everyone!

Here's hoping that you and your families are all enjoying a wonderful holiday season.

And as for the New Year, don't forget to read the book that your mother or daughter assigned for you! Our next meeting date is on Wednesday, January 20th from 7:30-8:30 pm. I will be handing out our new books on that date (The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett). It's a great one that I know you will all enjoy.

See you in 2010!

January's book title...

... is up to you! Well, sort of!

Here's the assignment:
Daughters, choose a book for your moms. Moms, choose a book for your daughters. Now, try to choose something that the other person has at least a chance of getting through!

Come to the January meeting prepared to talk about why you gave your mom/daughter the book you did, and what you thought about the book you were given to read.

I'd also love to see how the friendship bracelets are coming along!

Stay healthy, and have a wonderful holiday season.

Book Club Meeting Tomorrow Night!

It's that time again!

I can't wait to see you all tomorrow evening, and to discuss what you all thought of "Uglies".
We're going to try something crafty again tomorrow: bracelets that are great for giving away to friends for the holidays - or just because!

Our book for December/January (alas, we will not meet again until Jan. 20th, 2010!) will be a little bit of an adventure, that is the mothers will choose for the daughters, and the daughters will choose for the mothers!

See you all tomorrow night,
Lindsay

Hey,
I have not been able to get to the book. I have been very busy and I hope to start it soon.

Jenna

Given UP?????????????

Hey everyone,

What is new? I have indeed given up on the book Little Brother. I found it hard to get into and to keep everything straight.

From Kara

So...

How goes the book?
My mother finished reading it this past week, and I think her head was spinning a bit! How is everyone else doing? Has anyone given up on it yet?

Let me know how you are doing!

And we're off!

It was great to see old and new faces at our first book club meeting last evening. If you are a member from last year, please remember that you do need to register at the library for this year if you are intending on coming - you can do this online at www.londonpubliclibrary.ca/programs/

Our next meeting will be on October 21st at 7:30 pm, and our book for that evening will be Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. I've given out all of the books I had, but there are still other copies of the book in the system should you sign up for the program and still need one!

Also at our next meeting, we will have someone coming in to help us make hand-painted scarves, so start thinking creatively!

Don't forget, you can always post on this blog to let us know what you are reading, thinking about, or any questions you have.

See you all soon!

First Meeting Tomorrow!

Wow, it's gonna be another great year!
I'm so looking forward to seeing the new faces and the returning members tomorrow night.
We'll chat about the books we read over the summer, do some paper work, review how to make this blog thing work, and make a list of stuff we want to read!
I'll also hand out our book for October: Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. This book won the White Pine award from the Ontario Library Association this year, and it's really great!

See you all at 7:30 tomorrow.

Looking Forward to September 16

Hey Lindsay,

I can't wait to sign up on Sept 1. Read the 3 Willows The Sisterhood Continues. I really enjoyed this book. I also read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. It was my favourite. My Mom read it along with me. I can't wait till September 16 when book club officially starts back up again.

From Kara

Tons to say!

Hi everyone!

Hopefully you have all had a great summer!

I'm starting to plan all of the fall programs here at Masonville Library - including starting up this book club again! Registration for this program will start on September first - dont' forget to register both mom and daughter for the group! You can check out the program listings here.

We are going to read some great books this year, starting with a Canadian favourite of mine - "I Want to Go Home!" by Gordon Korman. There are tons of copies of this book in the library system, so go ahead and grab a copy today! We will discuss it at our first meeting on September 16th at 7:30 pm.

If you are looking for something to read in the mean time, I just finished reading "The Glassmaker's Daughter" by V. Briceland. It's new to the library, and quite a great book that I think both moms and daughters will enjoy.

See you in September!

If you like the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants...

... then why not try Ann Brashares new book 3 Willows: The Sisterhood Grows. I just finished reading this book, and while the original sisterhood is mentioned, and some of the characters pop in and out of the book, this is a completely new story. I think you will all enjoy this book (teens and moms alike!) so give it a try, or add it to your summer reading list!

Happy reading,
Lindsay

New Book!

Hi Everyone!

We had a small but savy group last week for book club, and handed out our new book: Keturah and Lord Death by Martine Leavitt. I haven't actually read this one yet, but hear that it has quite a twist at the end!

There are extra copies on my desk, just go ahead and ask for one from the staff if I am not around.

Next month's meeting on May 13th will be our last meeting until the fall (I know, I'll miss it too!). But this blog will stay up and running, so feel free to post about what you are reading!

Enjoy the spring!

March Break!!!

I plan to read `` The Messenger`` by : Lois Lowry. I have read the first two books and have enjoyed them. The first one my class read together. It was the best one so, far in my mind.
What are other people planning on reading during March Break. A whole week to read. Yes!

Bees and Trees and Paint, oh my!

Okay, so I only used the word "trees" because it rhymed with "bees" - you can't be perfect all the time! "Bees" and "Paint", however, do have meaning to all of us!

First off, the bees. My mother and I both read The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. I read it about 3 or 4 years ago, and mom read it last week. We watched the movie together on the weekend and both enjoyed it. However, I do think that both of us liked the book better!

And secondly, the "paint"! Let me peer into my crystal ball... wait... I see it! Paint! There will be paint in your future! Namely, we will be painting a collaborative mural for the Teen Annex space here at Masonville at our next meeting (March 11th) No prior talent or experience required - it will be what it will be! So, clothes that can get messy are probably a good idea!

Most importantly, get those blog posts up here! Let us know what you are reading, or are planning on reading during March Break!

See you next week!

Homework - Again!

Hi Everyone:

Yes, Kara, thanks! I did have a great Valentine's day!

So, your homework, should you choose to accept it, is to watch the movie version of Little Women - I prefer the version with Susan Sarandon and Winona Ryder, but you can choose whatever version you would like! For those of you who were at the last meeting, we got a little over half way through.

Your homework is a perfect lead in to this month's title - find a book that has been turned into a movie - read the book, watch the movie, and then let's find out which one you liked most! I have lists at the library if you are looking for suggestions. Remember - no Twilight! Pick something new!

And don't forget to post a blog every now and again - the person who blogs the most during a month gets a prize!

See you in March.

Hey Everyone,

What books are everyone reading? Are they good? I finished Ellen Hopkins latest book it was awesome though it did have some mature content. I love her books they are written in what looks like poetry format. They are a quick easy book and I did enjoy them.

Kara

Time??

Hi

I was just wanting to check the time. I was wondering what time the book club starts thanks Kara

Announcing our New Title... Sort of....

Hi Guys!

Well, we're going to switch it up a bit this time!
March's book is going to be (insert drum roll here)...

Any book that's been made into a movie. Except Twilight. You've already done it!

I'll bring a list of some books you could try to our next meeting, or come up with a book/movie of your own! The only restriction is that the movie is based on the book - not the other way around. Read the book, watch the movie, and the be prepared to tell us which one you liked better, and why.

See you all on Wednesday!

Little Women

Hello Everyone,

How is everyone. I think Little Women is not my favourite book. I don't like the way it is written. I prefer something more in this time or a fantsey. Well, I hope all is well

This just in...

Hi everyone.... are you still out there?
How is Little Women coming along?
Love it or hate it, you can write about it here!

I just returned from the Ontario Library Association conference in Toronto this past week, and boy was it exciting!! For those of you who read Cassandra Clare's books, I got a sneak peak at the newest and last book of the series City of Glass which is not due out until March of this year. Ask me really nicely, and maybe, just maybe I'll lend it to you! (I've read it already - it's fantastic!)

Our next meeting is next week on February 11th, so I'm going to have to think really hard about what we will read for March - plus something fun for us to do when we get together. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

New Book Available - Plus a Gift for Everyone!

See these fabulous journals? They were all lovingly created by the attendees at the last meeting! You can choose one to take home and treasure forever when you come in to pick up your copy of Little Women. Just ask at the main desk, and the staff will get you a copy from my office and let you choose your journal.

Next month's meeting is on February 11th, so I'll see you all then.

Don't forget to keep blogging! Last month's top blogger (Katie) received a mug full of chocolate... what could the prize be this month?

Stay warm!

Exciting News - and Book Club Tomorrow!

Okay, so having book club tomorrow is in and of itself very exciting. We will share our favourite books with each other, and we're going to create our own journals - loads of fun!

February's book title is a classic - "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott. I have tons of copies at the library, so you can pick one up from me tomorrow, or next time you are here.

And on to the BIG AND VERY EXCITING NEWS!!!

I am very excited (can you tell?) to announce the author Maggie L. Wood will be conducting a writing workshop/visit at Masonville Library on Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 (That's during March Break). Maggie has written two books (Princess Mage and Princess Pawn), both of which are fabulous (I have signed copies!) that I think all of the girls would enjoy reading. I hope some or all of you consider attending.

And that's it!
See you tomorrow night.
